The Milestone is the quintessence of elegance. Whether you’re looking to propose, celebrate an anniversary, or simply enjoy a special meal with loved ones or family, The Milestone’s refined surroundings are the perfect place for an exclusive private dining experience. To find out more, we spoke to Executive Chef Alexandros Diamantis.
What sort of celebrations are typically hosted in the private dining area?
“We’re a fantastic venue for bespoke celebrations. Particularly family birthdays, christenings and even intimate wedding receptions. Our Windsor Suite and Map Room, as a combination, are also perfect for business seminars, with the Map Room serving as a break-out room or smaller meeting space if required.”
How would you describe your style of cooking?
“Many of our dishes have been created by our Founder & President, Mrs Beatrice Tollman. They’re modern British in style, whilst also carrying through that ‘hearty home cooked meal’ feeling that our guests simply adore.
I have, since becoming the Exec Head Chef, introduced a touch of my Greek heritage to some of the dishes on the menu, adding some Mediterranean influences here and there. I love dishes that are varied in texture, and enjoy including additional elements such as a vegetable purée to a dish. Sometimes, you’re able to achieve a much stronger flavour from the vegetable when pureed.
I’ve also started experimenting with powders and our new Valentine’s menu features delicate vanilla-infused langoustine tails with a burnt butter powder, which I feel works well together, and I hope our guests will feel the same.”
What’s the most popular dish on the private dining menu?
“I would have to say that our individual beef Wellingtons are a firm favourite. Tender beef fillet with a mushroom duxelle, wrapped in a beautiful puff pastry – who could wish for anything more! Our succulent hand-dived scallops are also very popular.”
Are guests allowed to tailor either the food or wine menu in advance?
“We always offer guests the option to create a bespoke menu based on their preferences. Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in the number of guests with dietary requirements, so we are always flexible when preparing any of our menus or individual dishes. As we prepare all our dishes from scratch, we can alter our à la carte dishes for guests, who perhaps have a particular intolerance or preference, at relatively short notice.
We have a very extensive wine list and it’s not often that we’ve been asked for a wine that we don’t have listed. However, on the occasion we don’t have a specific guest’s preferred wine, we’re able to order it in.”
Is wine-pairing possible at a private dining event?
“Wine-pairing is, of course, possible. We have an extensive list of wines available featuring new world as well as old world wines. We are also pleased to have, within the TTC family, Bouchard Finlayson Winery, which produce some of South Africa’s best exports. We have hosted several wine-tasting events and even cocktail masterclasses in the past, so we’re as comfortable with beverages as we are with the food.”
What sets the Milestone’s private dining experience apart from the competition?
“Of course, the hotel itself is a stunning venue – a true mansion house hotel in the heart of London. Our food quality is exceptional, with every detail being considered and taken care of, in advance. The style of service we offer at The Milestone is genuine care and the desire to ensure every guest leaves happy – and full.
We embrace ‘old school’ theatre, which could be in the form of expertly carving a side of smoked salmon at the table or upholding the French tradition of sabrage in the Champagne department.
Is there a room prepared for private dining experiences or are there several to choose from?
“Our main function room is the Windsor Suite, which is able to accommodate up to 32 for a seated dinner or 60 for a standing cocktail reception. We have a beautiful contemporary Conservatory which we use for smaller, more informal events.
Although not completely private, our Oratory, the old chapel of the house, situated alongside Cheneston’s Restaurant, is a beautiful (and romantic) venue for a couple or group up to eight people. The Oratory has staged its fair share of proposals over the years!”
If you are interested in world-class cellars, tables heaving with the finest food, alongside the short of service most hosts can only dream of, book a private dining experience at The Milestone. Please do not hesitate to contact the hotel here.
