Thanksgiving may be an American holiday, but for those wishing to celebrate the day in London, the city also has its fair share of delicious pumpkin pie and corn bread. Guests staying at The Milestone will be spoilt for choice thanks to the special Thanksgiving menu at the hotel restaurant, Chenestons. Elsewhere, offerings include innovative takes on the traditional turkey dinner alongside generous family-style sharing platters and fabulously decadent desserts. Here are some of our favourite places to celebrate Thanksgiving in London.
The English Grill
It may be known for its emphasis on English fine dining but, for one day only, The English Grill at The Rubens at the Palace will offer an All-American menu in celebration of Thanksgiving. On 23rd November, those wishing to celebrate with friends and family can feast on a three-course menu that includes starters of sweet corn chowder with smoked Applewood cheese and chilli croquettes as well as barbequed pig cheek with a spicy sweet potato coleslaw. Alongside free range turkey with all the trimmings, guests can choose from mains of maple glaze salmon with fondant potato bacon or butternut squash casserole with pecan nut crumble. Round off a joyful Thanksgiving meal in classic style with a slice of pumpkin pie and scoop of vanilla ice cream.
The Milestone Hotel
The Milestone Hotel is offering guests the chance to enjoy an authentic Thanksgiving experience in the heart of London. Cheneston’s Restaurant will be serving up a generous three-course dinner on Thanksgiving, packed full of traditional American dishes. Start with seafood chowder, smoked pork ribs and corn bread or a winter kale salad, followed by a flavoursome Norfolk Bronze Turkey dinner, served with sausage stuffing, collard greens and duck fat roasted potatoes. For dessert, choose from a wicked trio of classic pecan pie with maple syrup whipped cream, chocolate fudge cheesecake or homemade “cookie dough” ice cream before ending your meal with tea, coffee and petits fours.
Bread Street Kitchen
With an emphasis on the friends and family aspect of Thanksgiving, Bread Street Kitchen’s menu centres on delicious sharing platters. Begin with a sharing snack platter of bacon wrapped pickles, crab and Tabasco dip, brie stuffed Portobello mushroom and lollipop spiced wings. The main is a clever take on the traditional turkey dinner featuring confit turkey leg, bacon popcorn and white bean and clam bake. A finale of sharing desserts – featuring the obligatory pumpkin pie with walnut and pecan praline, maple and cinnamon ice cream as well as peanut butter parfait and doughnut sticks with hot jam – is a fitting end to your banquet.
As one of London’s best-known American restaurants, Christopher’s in Covent garden can be relied upon for a fantastic Thanksgiving spread. Reserve a table on 23rd November and enjoy a special meal that combines classic Thanksgiving dishes with innovative, tasty touches. Whet your taste buds with starters of caramelised Orkney scallops or Maryland crab cakes before tucking into a slow-cooked Ballotine of organic Turkey with corn bread. Alternative mains include pulled lamb or prime rib-eye steak with candied yams. Embrace the holiday spirit with a dessert of baked pecan pie cheesecake with Graham Cracker ice cream and a peanut butter chocolate cookie.
Babylon Kensington Roof Gardens
Situated in the beautiful and unique surroundings of Kensington Roof Gardens, Babylon restaurant is offering a special Thanksgiving menu. Sip on a Pumpkin Pie cocktail when you arrive, a spicy, warming punch that’s made from pumpkin puree, spiced rum, winter spiced syrup and a pinch of cinnamon. The meal begins with a rich mushroom soup, served with whipped, malted crème fraiche and garlic brioche which is followed by a roast English Rose turkey with all the trimmings. What’s more, excellent Californian wines from the Napa Valley provide the perfect accompaniment to this American celebration. A dessert of pumpkin pie with golden raisins, pecan nuts and yoghurt ice cream is a sweet finale to a fabulous feast.
