Here at the Milestone we are always looking for new ways to improve our green initiatives. Therefore, we have a dedicated sustainability team that search for new green partnerships and practices to follow. As part of the sustainability team we also have quarterly meetings with the other Red Carnation properties to share our success and ideas as a company.

Supporting local charities, conservation, preservation, nature, heritage and green initiatives including the personal development of each member of the Red Carnation team, is at the heart of everything we do.

We also have a number of small recycling initiatives that we follow as a standard from paper to linen, we can even recycle your used slippers.

Clean Conscience

Through Clean Conscience (#makingadifference) we recycle old soaps and toiletries which reduces waste to land fill and benefits humanitarian projects around the world.

Recycling of candles

We up-cycle our used candles from the restaurant and rooms, up-cycling them into new wax products which then get sold, with all proceeds going to charity.

Everyday Items

We recycle paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, cans and printer cartridges as a standard.

Lost Property

Lost property that has been unclaimed after six months is taken to charity shops or alternatively recycled.

Biodegradable Items

We are now using biodegradable straws, to prevent the use of plastic. We will also be stocking new Red Carnation biodegradable take away coffee cups.

Slippers and linen recycling

We recycle used towelling slippers which otherwise would have been discarded on guest check-out. The recycling of damaged linens generates an approximate £1k per month to charity.
