We Care

The threat posed by climate change and the need to preserve natural resources are some of the most important issues facing us today. At The Milestone Hotel, we are keenly aware of our responsibility to confront these problems head-on, and have instituted a Green Team to investigate and implement the ways we can contribute to this global process.

These vary from large-scale initiatives – such as a clear policy on recycling, installing solar panels to provide energy and dimmer switches to conserve it, and finding ways to reuse waste water for flushing toilets and watering plants – to apparently trivial responses like reusing scrap paper as notepaper.

We are committed to our community and dedicated to social responsibility. Supporting local charities, conservation, preservation, nature, heritage and green initiatives including the personal development of each member of the team, is at the heart of everything we do.

Green Practices

  • Recycle all paper, cardboard, glass, printer cartridges & batteries
  • Designed a yearly calendar highlight green events
  • Use energy saving light bulbs
  • Green practices training for all staff
  • We ask that guests put towels they want replacing into the bath so we don’t replace unnecessarily
  • Belu water - the only 100% carbon neutral water company giving all profits to Water Aid
  • Lost property that has been unclaimed after 6 months is taken to charity shops
  • Member of Considerate Hoteliers
  • Through Clean Conscience (#makingadifference) we recycle old soaps and toiletries which reduces waste to land fill and benefits humanitarian projects around the world
  • Up-cycling of used candles into new wax products which then get sold, with all proceeds going to charity
  • We are currently in the trial phase of recycling used towelling slippers discarded on guest check-out
  • Recycling of all damaged linens generating an approximate £1k per month to charity
  • Dedicated fundraising initiatives for The Starlight Foundation, Hospitality Action and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital
  • In 2016, we donated £2,500 to SMART, a local charity focusing on mental health issues, to create an urban garden through the #GivePeasAChance competition, run by Cully & Sully and Grow it yourself
  • Adopted a polar bear through the World Wildlife Foundation as the hotel green mascot for 2017
  • Work with the Kensington and Chelsea Foundation as part of our commitment to the local community
