London, 24 January 2017 – TripAdvisor has revealed the results of its annual Travellers’ Choice Awards, the very best of travel as voted for by millions of genuine travellers, honouring London’s five star Hotel 41 as the ‘Top Hotel in the UK’, and sister property The Oyster Box in Durban as the ‘Top Hotel in South Africa’. The family owned and run Red Carnation Hotel Collection, of which these two properties are part, was awarded 28 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards in total for 2017.
Proving itself to be a benchmark of excellence in UK hospitality, Hotel 41 is an intimate private hideaway in the heart of London, comprising 30 luxurious rooms and suites, exceptional levels of comfort, personal butlers, 24 hour room service and passionate staff who outnumber guests two to one to ensure the highest standards. The chic black and white design of 41 is enriched by rich mahogany and exquisite furnishings. Guests are made to feel truly at home with round-the-clock dining and complimentary treats in the residents only Executive Lounge.
By contrast to its monochromatic sister, The Oyster Box delivers the ultimate in colonial charm and style, overlooking Umhlanga’s prestigious beachfront, the Indian Ocean and the iconic lighthouse that defines the shoreline. The much-beloved five star hotel marries 86 luxurious rooms and suites with an award-winning spa, two pristine pools, a range of exemplary dining options and a beautiful rooftop bar.
Both of these Red Carnation hotels have always performed strongly in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards with recognition year after year, including the title of ‘Best Luxury Hotel in the UK’ for Hotel 41 and the number one position for The Oyster Box in the ‘Top 25 Hotels in South Africa’ category in 2016. This year Hotel 41 was also awarded the position of No. 7 ‘Top Hotel in Europe’ as well as the No. 20 ‘Top Hotel in the World’, among others. The Oyster Box also scooped a number of other accolades, including the No. 4 position in the ‘Top Hotel in Africa’ category.
Jonathan Raggett, Managing Director of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection said:
“We are delighted that, year after year, the Red Carnation Hotel Collection continues to receive a number of accolades in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards, and it is an honour to see Hotel 41 awarded the Top Hotel in the UK and The Oyster Box voted the Top Hotel in South Africa.
“The transparency of online guest reviews is something that benefits everyone and allows us to continuously evolve as a business and ensure the delivery of excellence at every stage of our guests’ experience. Our inspirational President and Founder Mrs. Beatrice Tollman personally reads each and every customer comment, and she leads our drive to be better every day. Her innate sense of what it takes to make the guest experience truly exceptional and her outstanding eye for detail and design help us to stand out from the competition, and these awards are testament to her passion for service and hospitality.”
Hayley Coleman, spokesperson for TripAdvisor, added:
“These awards are based on feedback from actual guests over the past year, which is what makes them so prized within the industry, so to be named UK’s top hotel, seventh in Europe and 20th in the world is a fantastic achievement for Hotel 41.”
The multi-award winning Red Carnation Hotel Collection comprises 17 luxury hotels located in London, Dorset, Guernsey, Ireland, Geneva, Florida and South Africa. TripAdvisor recognised London properties The Egerton House Hotel, The Chesterfield Mayfair, The Milestone Hotel and The Montague on the Gardens for their excellence in service and luxury; while in Ireland, the extensively renovated Ashford Castle was awarded the number two ‘Top Hotel’ spot. The beautiful Twelve Apostles in Cape Town was also recognised as a ‘Top Hotel’ choice in South Africa for 2017.
