The adjective ‘sumptuous’ might have been made for The Milestone Hotel. The word suggests plump cushions, curtains of heavy silk brocade, exquisite porcelain reflected in surfaces of polished mahogany, oil paintings in gilt frames, thick carpets of warm colours and strategically placed table lamps of the finest and most expensive sort.
The Milestone Hotel wins the best service award. Excellent service isn't easy to define or measure, it's the sort of thing that falls in the category "you know it when you see it".
To its regular guests, or indeed anyone who has passed through its polished glass and brass door in Kensington, it will come as no surprise that The Milestone Hotel has been voted Best Hotel in the World for Service by Travel & Leisure.
It was cocktail shakers at dawn on 3rd June when bar professionals from five-star hotels and style bars across the UK gathered for the Annual Galvin Cup competition. First prize in this prestigious competition, which has become a fixture on the UK hospitality calendar, went to Marco Ercolano, resident barman at Stables' Bar at London's Milestone Hotel.
