The Unilever Series - Miroslaw Balka at the Tate Modern

The tenth commission in the Tate Modern's Unilever Series comes from Polish artist Miroslaw Balka, who will deomstrate his skill as a sculptor and video artist.

Born in Warsaw in 1958, Balka draws on his Catholic upbringing to explore themes of common experience and personal history.

He also looks into the fractured history of Poland, with memories being the central focus of his video installations and sculptures.

In recent years, his work has focused on the Holocaust and the effect it had on Warsaw and Otwock.

Guests at the luxury London hotel the Milestone will find that, despite his sculptures often being based on serious events, they display a feeling of warmth and challenge art fans to see joy in moments of adversity.
