Destroy Every Closet Door at the ICA

Event: Destroy Every Closet Door
Date: January 10th until January 25th

Harvey Milk is not a name that many people will be familiar with but this man had a huge impact on US politics before he was tragically assassinated in 1978.

Mr Milk was the first openly-gay politician to reach public office in the US after he was elected to San Francisco's Board of Supervisors and his ascent up the ladder added momentum to the battle for equal acceptance of gay people in the public sphere.

To celebrate his impact, Gus van Sant has directed a film telling his tale and bringing his name to the masses who may not be familiar with him.

It is one of the movies being shown at the Destroy Every Closet Door showcase taking place at the Institute of Contemporary Art, which will provide a platform for some of the most moving and inspiring pieces of filmmaking involving homosexuality as the main theme.

Before becoming engrossed in an evening of cinema, guests at the luxury London hotel the Milestone can enjoy the culinary delights offered by the establishment's Dining Experience package.

The deal includes a full English breakfast each day in addition to a three-course a-la-carte dinner every evening.

After enjoying a hearty meal, audience members can sit back and take in the drama and magic of some of the documentary films on offer.

Features include Paragraph 175, a powerful and disturbing production which hears the stories of gay men and women who survived the concentration camps.

In addition, the Oscar-winning documentary Threads: Story From the Quilt, will be shown, a film which took as its starting point the memorial quilt started in 1987 to commemorate victims of Aids.
