That time of year is fast approaching - the annual Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race on the Thames is taking place on April 6th this year and this fine British tradition is likely to be as enjoyable as ever.

The banks of the river will be invisible under the sea of people who take to its shores if the weather is fine, and whether or not the rain clouds gather, there is sure to be a splendid atmosphere in the local pubs.

Whether you want to have a flutter on your favourite university or just enjoy the feeling of us Brits getting together for a good party, the Boat Race is always an enjoyable day.

However, for those who prefer a slightly more unusual sporting event, Spitalfields City Farm has come up with an excellent alternative.

The Oxford Vs Cambridge Goat Race is just as enjoyable as it sounds. Once a year - generally at the same time as the official Boat Race - two goats named Oxford and Cambridge race around a specially designed course.

This year, the event is taking place at the earlier time of 4pm due to the later-than-usual commencing of the Boat Race.

While there will be alcohol and the opportunity to place a bet on your favourite to win, this race is just as enjoyable for the children, so be sure to bring them along.

Stay at The Milestone Hotel, where you can be sure the kids will be quite comfortable as part of the We Are Family package. While Mum and Dad can enjoy a nice glass of Champagne on arrival, the kids receive complimentary gifts and a supervised behind-the-scenes tour of the hotel.
